The sole Piazza in the city of Venice- the one at San Marco does not disappoint. The Piazza San Marco has a lot of drama revolving around the place. Loved by all-no matter whether you belong to the elite class or are unfortunately poor. One of the most exciting things you can do while on a vacation to Venice is to halt by the San Marco and Piazza. There are hardly a few attractions in Venice which surprass the Piazza di San Marco. It is one of the spots in Venice that has tourists pouring into it. Just like the Piazza, its surrounding areas are equally impressing as well. Things you can check out include
The beautiful Campanile (Bell Tower) castling over the square.
To the south you can find the Palazzo Ducale and the Piazzetta dei Leoni lies to its other side. Chic stores and luxurious, historic cafes dot the place.
If you have the time and the facility you can always think of dropping by the beautiful, quaint, romantic and scenic island of Burano situated in close proximity to the city. It is definitely worth the additional time on the quick vaporetta (about 30 minutes by ferry). You will like the boat ride in all probability. It is in fact a play of colors that you get to see in this island. You can think of having a meal at the Trattoria da Romano or a pizza at Ai Tre Ponti. There are also hued houses and pretty little canals. Nice place to take a short walk.
There are charming little shops on the way side where you can find interesting masks you can take back as souvenirs. There is a nice lace museum here. You can check out that too. Proceed to treat your senses!
The Palazzo is indeed beautiful. This Doge's palace is an important secular building that a visitor gets to see on his Venice city break. The impressive building has served many purposes including an administrative center, prison, senate house, Hall of justice as well as a public archive. You can get to see how the castle really functioned in the bygone era. The rooms done up with excellent workmanship brim with paintings and weapons. There are numerous prisons as well. And, getting to see the exact place where Casanova was imprisoned and from where he absconded is not something you get to see everyday. Just like the palace, the story taht revolves around it is also simply great.
