"I might not be as famous as "Piazza di San Marco ", but I am the heart of Venice". If the Rialto bridge had a mouth, I am quiet sure that this would be the phrase it would utter. You wouldn't believe the structure rose up in a span of just 3 years if you saw it. 12,000 wooden pilings which are more than 400 years old support this massive bridge. This beautifully constructed structure even gifted its architect Antonio da Ponte, the label "Anthony of the Bridge".
The bridge is basically constituted by 3 walkways. The one in the centre is wide enough and is beautifully sidelined by jewellery and linen shops, shops that sell Murano glass as well as a multitude of other small tourist shops. The other two walkways are along the outer balustrades.
P.S.However it might get difficult for you to cross the bridge if you are on a wheelchair or with a stroller because the bridge is primarily made of steps.
